Sagittal Plane | Divides body into left and right sides - runs down centre of the body |
Frontal Plane | Divides body into Anterior (Front) and Posterior (Back) |
Transverse Plane | Divides body into Superior (upper) and Inferior (lower) halves |
Posterior or Dorsal | Closer to or at the back of the body |
Medial | Closer to the Midline or Mid-sagittal plane of the body |
Lateral | Further from the Midline of the body |
Proximal | Closer to the attached end of the limb (eg elbow more proximal than fingers) |
Distal | Further from attached end of limb (toes more Distal than ankles) |
Superficial | Towards or on the surface of the body |
Deep | Away from surface |
Prone | Face down (eg Push up position) |
Supine | Face up (eg Sit up position) |
