Term | Definition |
Presbyopia | The loss of accommodation as one ages |
Absolute Hyperopia | The amount of hyperopia that CANNOT be overcome with accomodation |
Manifest Hyperopia | Amount of hyperopia that can be treated with strongest convex (plus) lens accepted with good VA |
Latent Hyperopia | Amount of hyperopia that requires a cycloplegic to overcome |
Total Hyperopia | The sum of latent and manifest hyperopia. |
Aniseikonia | Difference in image size between the two eyes |
Antimetropia | One eye is far sighted and the other eye is near sighted |
Asthenopia | "Eye strain" symptoms |
Amblyopia | Poor vision not due to organic causes, occurring from birth to about age six |
Monovision | Using one eye for distance and the other eye for near |
Spherical Abberation | Bending of peripheral light rays more (or less) than at the center of a lens |
Regular Astigmatism | The light rays entering the eye are focused at just two separate locations. |
Irregular Astigmatism | The light rays entering the eye are focused at more than two locations. |
