Abbot | The "term" headed a monastery |

Hierarchy | A group of people organized by rank and authority |
Oath of Fealty | A feudal oath of loyalty sworn to a lord in exchange for an award of land |
Rule of law | The exercise of power by subordinating it to well-defined and established laws |
Serf | A peasant who belongs to the land They amount to a slave |
Fallow | A field, plowed and harrowed but not sown to restore its fertility |
Clergy | The men and women of prayer |
Excommunication | A censure used to deprive membership to a church |
Manor | The land on which a lord lives |
self-sufficient | someone or something doesn't need help from anything |
Tithe | one tenth of annual produce or earnings,taken as a tax for the support of the church and clergy. |
guild | An association of people who share the same craft |
Common good | something good for all people or the majority of people |
knight | the lord pays the "term" to fight and protect him |
Monarch | a king, queen, or emperor |
lord | the ruler of a manor |
noble | people in a position of power |
homage | special honor or respect shown publicly. |
vassal | a holder of land |
feif | a person's sphere of operation or control |
interdependent | two or more things or people that relate to each other and are dependent on each other |
investiture | the action of formally investing a person with honors or rank. |
power struggle | who will have control over important areas |
monastey | a building or buildings occupied by a community of monks living under religious vows. |
convent | a Christian community under monastic vows |
abbess | a woman who is the head of an abbey of nuns |
monk | a member of a religious community of men typically living under vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience. |
nun | a member of a religious community of women |
pope | the head of the catholic church |
salvation | deliverance from sin and its consequences |
rights | you have the "term" to do somthing |
