smooth muscle (visceral) | an involuntary non-striated muscle that lines your arteries to help control blood pressure |
cardiac muscle | involuntary striated muscle found in the walls and foundation of the heart |
skeletal muscle | striated muscle tissue which is under the control of the somatic nervous system |
voluntary muscle | muscles that you have the ability to consiously control |
involuntary muscle | a muscle that contracts without conscious control |
muscles origin | attached to the immovable bone |
muscles insertion | attached to the movable bone |
tendon | connects muscle to bone and is capable of withstanding tension |
twitch contractions | is a sudden muscle contraction |
tetanic contractions | occurs in a prolonged and steady state |
isometric contractions | the muscle fires but there is no movement at a joint |
isotonic contractions | both the muscle length and the joint angle changes |
tonic contractions | sustained contraction of a muscle |
abduction | is a movement which draws a limb out to the side |
rotation | form of movement in which a bone moves around a central axis |
pronation | inward roll of the foot during normal motion |
adduction | is a movement which draws inward toward the median |
supination | outward roll of the foot during normal motion |
dorsiflexion | is the movement which decreases the angle between the dorsum of the foot and the leg |
plantar flexion | is the movement which increases the approximate 90 degree angle between the front part of the foot and the shin |
