Endocrine | Hormones that are released into the blood stream or surrounding tissues |
Exocrine | Hormones that are released on epithelial tissues like the skin, digestive tract, or mammary glands |
Antidiuretic hormone ADH | Hormone that increases water retention by the kidneys |
Oxytocin | Hormone that stimulates contraction of the uterus |
Thymosin | Hormone secreted by the thymus gland, essential for development of T cells |
Insulin | Hormone secreted by the pancreas to decrease blood sugar levels |
Testosterone | steroid sex hormone secreted by the testes |
Estrogen | Steroid sex hormone secreted by the follicle cells surrounding ova |
Progesterone | Hormone that speeds up movement of the fertilized egg through the uterine tube and prepares uterus for arrival of developing embryo |
Epinephrine | Hormone secreted by the adrenal medulla to increase HR & BP |
Norepinephrine | Hormone secreted by the adrenal medulla to produce similar effects as epinephrine |
Prolactin | Hormone that stimulates functional development of mammary gland in the female |
Growth hormone | Hormone that increases cell growth and replication |
Aldosterone | hormone that causes the kidneys to retain water and sodium |
Hydrocortisone | Hormone that increases sugar in blood and suppresses the immune system |
