Adaptation | reduced sensitivity after a constant stimulus |
Proprioception | The sense of body position |
Nociceptor | sense of pain |
Tactile | sense of touch, pressure, and/or vibration |
Baroreceptors | sense of change in pressure within the body (lungs, blood vessels, heart chambers) |
Olfactory | sense of smell |
Gustatory | sense of taste |
Lacrimal | Pertaining to tears |
Conjunctiva | tissue lining the inner surface of the eyelid and outer surface of the eye |
Cornea | clear lens covering the iris and pupil of the eye, a continuation of the sclera |
Sclera | the tough fibrous white portion of the eyeball |
Retina | inner most layer of the eye, contains the rods and cones |
Pinna | the visible portion of the ear |
Auditory Ossicles | the 3 tiny bones in the middle ear |
Organ of Corti | specialized hairs in the cochlear portion of the inner ear |
Conduction Deafness | When there is blockage located in either the outer or middle ear resulting in an inability of transfer of vibrations from the tympanic membrane to oval window |
Equilibrium | sense of balance |
Vertigo | a sense that things are moving around you |
Cerumen | earwax |
