Lecture 2 | Bone Tissue |
osteogenic cell | develops into an osteoblast , stem cell |
osteoblast cell | forms bone tissue, makes matrix |
osteocyte cell | maintains bone tissue |
osteoclast cell | destroys bone material, white blood cell |
extracellular matrix | 25% water, 25% protein/organic matrix, 50 % crystalized mineral salts |
dangers of lead, gold, strontium, plutonium | radiation from the inside out, causes cancer, can get in bone matrix |
compact bone | arranged in osteons or haversian systems |
osteons or haversian canel | contain blood vessels, lymphatic vessels and nerves |
concentric rings | surround osteon or canel |
lines of stress | osteons are aligned in same direction along lines of stress |
osteon is | concentric rings (lamellae) of calcified matrix |
Osteocytes found | lacunae |
osteocytes communicate | canaliculi |
canaliculi | filled with extracellular fluid and connect cells to each other |
interstitial lamellae | older osteons |
outer circumferential lamella | outside of bone, grows after pressure is applied |
nutrient foramen | hole vessels enter |
spongy bone | made from trabeculae |
trabeculae | thin plates of bone that form around stress planes |
red bone marrow | located between trabeculae |
place blood cells develop | red marrow |
spongy bone found | ends of long bones and inside flat bones |
spongy bones and osteons? | no osteons |
end of bone name | epiphyses |
