| Lumbar regions (left/right) | Between the ribs and the flaring portions of the hip bones; lateral to the umbilical region (left superficial organ: Descending colon of large intestine; right superficial organ: Ascending colon of the large intestine)

| Hypochondriac regions (left/right) | Flanking the epigastric region laterally and overlying the lower ribs (left superficial organ: diaphragm; right superficial organs: liver, gallbladder)
