| Define tissues. | Tissues are groups of cells that are similar to eachother in structure and function.

| What does epithelial tissue do? | Protects, absorbs and secretes.

| Define basement membrane? | A basement membrane is a very thin material that anchors the epithelium to the underlying structure.

| Is Epithelial tissue avascular or vascular? | Avascular. It has no blood supply it gets its nourishment from blood supply of underlying tissue.

| What does a squamous cell look like? | They are thin, flat and look like fish scales.

| What does a cubodial cell look like? | Cube-like, they look like dice.

| What do columnar cells look like? | They are tall and narrow and look like columns.

| If there is only one layer of epithelium it is called __ ? | Simple. Ex: Simple squamous epithelium.

| If there is multiple layers of epithelia it is called __? | Stratified. Ex: Stratified squamous epithelium.

| Where can you find simple squamous epithelia? | The wall of capillaries, walls of alveoli (air sacs of the lungs).

| Where can you find simple columnar epithelia? | These tall, tightly packed cells line the entire length of the digestive tract.

| Define Pseudostratified columnar epithelia | A single layer of columnar cells that appear multilayered but they really are not.

| Where can you find stratified epithelia? | Found in tissue that needs to withstand friction well. Ex: Lining of the mouth, outer surface of the skin. (epidermis)

| Define transitional epithelia, where can you find it? | Found primarily in organs that need to stretch. They are transitional because the cells slide past one another when the tissue is stretched. You can find it in organs that need to stretch like the urinary bladder.

| What kind of tissue are glands made out of? | Most glandular tissue is made up of simple cubodial epithelium.

| Define Gland. | a gland is a structure made up of one or more cells that secrete a particular substance.

| Define Exocrine glands. | Exocrine glands have ducts , or tiny tubes into which the exocine secretions are released before reaching body surfaces or body cavities.

| Define Endocrine glands. | Endocrine glands secrete hormones and do not have ducts. These hormones are secreted directly into the blood stream.

||||
| Define Connective tissue | The most abundant of the 4 tissue types. Connective tissues connects or binds together the parts of the body. Found primarily under the skin around organs. It has a very good blood supply and an abundance of intercellular matrix.

| Intercellular Matrix. | This is what maies the various types of connective tissue so different. It is the material located outside the cell and fills the spaces between the cells. Intercellular matrix can be liquid, gel-like or hard.
