Only gained knowledge through experience. Thomas Hobbes believed that every human being needed a master. Compared humans to animals.

Immanuel Kant defines enlightenment as "man's release from his self-incurred tutelage."  Explain what Kant meant by this.   He means that the enlightenment is a time to stop relying on others to think for you, and to start deciding, and thinking for yourself. Independence in thought, discover knowledge and truth for ourselves.
