CMA RMA   certified medical assistant or registered medical assistant (works in doctor's office, must be able to assist in exams, draw blood and do office work (cert. or a.d.

EMT   emergency medical technician: provides emergency care away from hospital setting--advanced EMTs become paramedics (EMTs 4-6 weeks, paramedics, associates degree)

LVN (Licensed Vocational Nurse) LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse)   supervised directly by RN. May do most procedures. Need to have RN countersign to administer blood products (certificate)

MD   medical doctor: varies depending on specialty. May diagnose and prescribe drugs (doctorate 8-12 yrs.)

ME   medical examiner - primarily required to pronoun a person dead or decide if a case warrants an autopsy (in some rural locations, no education)

MLT   licensed lab technologist :performs lab tests and phlebotomies (certificate or associate's degree)
