Masseter   origin: Zygomatic process of the maxilla, medial and inferior surfaces of the Zygomatic arch. Insertion: Angle and ramus od the mandible, including lateral surface of the coronoid process. Action: closes jaw and clenches teeth

Temporalis   Origin: Temporal fossa including frontal, parietal, and temporal bones. Insertion: Coronoid process and anterior border of the ramus of the mandible. Action: closes lower jaw and clenches teeth

Splenius capitis   Origin: Spinous processes of C7 and T1-T4. Insertion: Mastoid process and lateral portion of the occipital ridge. Action: (unilaterally) lateral flexion and rotation of the head and neck. (bilaterally) Hyperextension and extension of the neck

Levator scapula   Origin: Posterior tubercles of the transverse processes of C1-C4. Insertion: Superior portion of the medial border of the scapula. Action: Elevation and some rotation of the scapula, lateral bending of the neck
