Superior   when a body part is above another or closer to the head. (ex. the heart is superior to the stomach)

Inferior   when a body part is below another or closer to the feet. (ex. the anus is inferior to the brain)

Anterior   toward the front. (ex. the nose is anterior to the spinal cord)

Posterior   toward the back. (ex. the rectum is a posterior "spot")

Medial   an imaginary mid-line diving the body into equal left and right halves; a body part is media if its closer to the mid-line.

Lateral   farther away form the mid-line. (ex. your hand is a lateral body part)

Poximal   a body part that is closer to a point of attachment. (like to the trunk of the body)

Distal   a body part that is further away from the point of attachment. (ex. the hand is distal to the shoulder)
