Cranial Cavity   includes: brain, part of major Dorsal (back) cavity

Vertebral Cavity   A.K.A. "Spinal" Cavity, part of major Dorsal (back) cavity

Thoracic Cavity   A.K.A "chest" cavity. includes: Superior & Inferior mediastinum, Pleural cavity, Pericardial cavity. Part of major Ventral (front) cavity

Pleural Cavity   contains the lungs, included in Thoracic (Chest) cavity. Part of major Ventral (front) cavity and Thoracic.

Pericardial Cavity   cavity within the mediastinum. (lower chest) Party of major Ventral (front) cavity within Thoracic.

Mediastinum   fibrous tissue forms a wall around the mediastinum, completely separating it from the pleural cavity. Contains heart, lungs, esophagus, trachea, etc. Superior and Inferior regions. Part of Ventral (front) cavity & Thoracic.

Abdominal Cavity   A.K.A "upper portion" of Abdominopelvic cavity; Abdomen/Abdominal. Includes stomach, spleen, liver, gall bladder, small intestine. Part of Ventral (front) cavity.

Pelvic Cavity   A.K.A. "lower portion" of Abdominopelvic Cavity & major Ventral. Includes part of large intestine, urinary bladder, reproductive organs.

Thoracic & Abdominopelvic Cavities are separated by the..   Diaphragm

Serous Membrane   surrounds organs by two layered membrane which secrete thing, watery fluid lubricating organs as they rub against each other & walls of cavities.

Parietal layer   Part of Serous Membrane. Outer layer of membrane that forms lining against inner wall of each cavity.

Visceral layer   Part of Serous membrane. inner layer of membrane that covers surface of each organ.

Body can be divided into 3 types of planes:   Sagittal, Frontal (Coronal), Transverse  
🗑
Sagittal/Midsagittal Plane   lengthwise plane running from front to back; if it runs exactly in midline, results in equal & symmetrical left/right halves.

Coronal/Frontal Plane   lengthwise plane running from side to side; divides body into anterior and posterior portions.  
🗑
Transverse/Horizontal Plane   crosswise plane; divides body into upper/lower parts.
