Definition
Atrium   The upper two chambers of the heart that receive blood entering the heart.

Ventricle   The lower two chambers of the heart lined with a thick wall of cardiac muscle to pump blood out of the heart.

Artery   A blood vessel that carries blood away from the heart (usually oxygen rich).  
🗑
Vein   A blood vessel that carries blood back to the heart (usually oxygen poor).  
🗑
Capillary   Tiny blood vessels that allow the exchange of nutrients and waste between blood and body cells.

Blood Pressure   The force of blood against the walls of blood vessels.  
🗑
Plasma   The clear yellowish liquid part of blood that is made mostly of water.

Heart Attack   An event that causes the heart muscle to stop working because of low blood supply to cardiac muscle.

Cellular Respiration   The process by which cells release energy stored in glucose.

Red Blood Cell   Cells in the blood that contain hemoglobin to hold oxygen and transport to body cells.

White Blood Cell   Large cells in blood and the lymphatic system that help fight diseases.

Platelet   These cells clump together and produce fibrin to stop the flow of blood when you are cut.
