QuestionAnswer
What is a joint stock company? Backed by investors, people who put money in a project for profit.
What is a charter? A written contract, issued by a government, giving the holder the right to establish a colony.
What is Jamestown? The first permanent English colony.
Who is John Smith? A soldier and adventurer, who ran Jamestown.
What are indentured servants? Men and women who sold their labor to the person who paid their passage to the new colony.
What was the House of Burgesses? Created in 1619, became the first representative assembly in the American colonies.
Bacon's Rebellion Bacon demanded that Berkley approve a war, when he didn't this sparked the rebellion in 1676
Pilgrims Separatist group
Mayflower Compact Agreement to obey laws for the good of the colony.
Puritans Religious group separate from the church of England
Great Migration Thousands of Puritan families fleeing England
Fundamental Orders of Connecticut written in 1639, basically a constitution
