Civics The study of the rights and duties of citizens
Citizenship The rights or duties of members of a state
Citizens Members of a community that give loyalty and are protected by the gov't
Service Economy An economy where the majority of the people provide service to the community,not manufacture goods
Values Broad ideas about whats good or desirable
Popular Sovereignty The idea that people hold the power
Institution A set of beliefs about obligations/roles shared by everybody in a community
Naturalization The process of legalizing an alien
Alien Illegal immigrant; non citizen
Immigrants A person who moves from one country to another permanently
Deport To send an alien back to their own country
Government Ruling authority for a community
Public Policy Gov't action to fix issues
Budget Limit/plan for spending & collecting money
Democracy Self ruling gov't; citizens have power
Direct Democracy All citizens vote
Representative Democracy Government where a small group makes laws, govern and represent the people
Republic The people have ultimate power
Monarchy Gov't with one hereditary ruler
Majority Rule Decisions made based on the most popular vote
Authoritarian One leader/group holds absolute power
