Explain the Navigation Laws. certain goods could only be sold to England or other Eng. colonies; goods had to be shipped in ships from England or Eng. colonies; 3/4 of crew of ship had to be English or colonial
England practiced salutary neglect with the colonies. Define salutary neglect. ignoring a problem for such a long time that when you go to fix it, it will be too late
Explain the Molasses Act. You could only buy molasses and sugar from other English colonies; If you buy from a foreign country, an extra tax (duty) is put on it.
Explain the Proclamation of 1763. 1) You can't move west of Appalachian Mtns. 2) If you were already there, you were asked to move back. 3) If you want to stay in Ohio Territory, you had to get a license giving you permission and having you realize you were taking a chance staying there.
Explain the Sugar Act. Duty was put on sugar, molasses, wine, coffee, and some kind of cloth.
Explain the Currency Act. All taxes must be paid in gold or silver instead of worthless colonial money.
Explain the Quartering Act. As troops are coming through your home, you are to give a soldier a place to stay for the night and a meal.
Explain the Stamp Act. All documents such as wills, marriage licenses, diplomas, newspapers, calendars, and playing cards have a small direct tax on them.
Explain the Townshend Act (4 parts) 1) duty on lead, paper, paint, glass, tea 2) to help look for smuggled goods, writ of assistance (search warrants) were given to soldiers 3) money from Townshend Acts were going to help to pay for governor's salary

What happened at the Boston Massacre? Colonists were yelling and ghrowing snowballs at soldiers; They fired at and killed 5 colonists.

What was the First Continental Congress? colonists meeting to see what to do about Intolerable Acts

What was the purpose of the First Continental Congress? 1) to decide what to do about Intolerable Acts 2) to settle differences with England
