What region of the U.S were most the nations cities located during the 1850's? North region
What is the Amastad rebellion? A group of 53 captive Africans who seized control of Amastad, a Spanish slave ship, carrying them to one port to another in Cuba.
List three ways that slaves resisted slavery. they refused to obey their owner. 2.they worked more slowly or pretended to be sick. 3.they broke the tools they needed for work
Why were slaves important in the Southern economy? They were profitable.
HOw did the North feel about slavery in the 1850's? They did not like slavery, and they outlawed it.
Where did most Southerners lives in the 1850's. On plantations, farms, or small towns.
What outcome did the North achieve by fighting in the Civil War? To free the slaves- no more slavery!
What officially started the Civil Way? The attack at Fort Sumpter, South Carolina.
How did many slaves reach freedom in the North? The underground railroad.
Why did Southern stated succeed from the Union? They wanted to keep the slaves.
What was Lincoln's view on slavery? He did not like it and he tried to end it. He was not going to abolish it.
What was Douglas's view on slavery? He thought it had a place.
Why was there violence in Kansas in 1854? There was violence because some people from Kansas voted for slavery and the Northerners thought it was illegal.
What was the Missouri compromise? In 1820 Missouri was as admitted as a slave state and Main was admitted as free state.
What was life like for free African Americans in 1850's? They did want to be caught, killed, or whipped.
What was the Dred Scott case about? The supreme court said he was a free slave just because his owner died.
Why were the Southern states so concerned about slavery being outlawed? Slaves helped them make money on the planations.
