Enclosure Movement the farming strategy among the British aristocrats using crop rotation and new farming technology
Roanoke the English colony in America that is known as the "Lost Colony" because when John White returned to the colony nobody was there
Peter Stuyvesant the man who surrendered New Amsterdam to the British
Virginia Company the Enlgish company that sent men to Jamestown, and any riches that were found there would be given to the company'sstockholders
William Penn the quaker that founded the colony of Pennsylvania after he left England
Jamestown The English colony in America that faced starvation and death, as they had to work with the native Indians
Lord de Le Warr the man that brought supplies and men to Jamestown during the starving time and then started a war with the Indians
Captain John Smith the English explorer that found John Smith
House of Burgesses Virginia's governmental body composed of elective representatives
Maryland Toleration Act the act that guaranteed everybody in Maryland toleration who believed in Christianity and death to those who didnt believe in it
Lord Baltimore one of the men who found the colony of Maryland after recieving a charter
Henry VIII the man who sent men to Jamestown and Roanoke so he change religion and thereby change wives
Puritans the strict religious group that moved to America because they wanted to and could not purify the church of England
John Winthrop the first governer of the Massachusettes Bay Colony
Pilgrims the first English settlers in America, who settled in Plymouth because they wanted religious freedom
Mayflower Compact the first government document of Plymouth
Roger Williams the man who believed in the seperation in church and state, challenging the Massachusettes Bay Company
Anne Hutchinson the woman that claimed that she could talk to god
Antinomianism the idea that by faith and God's grace, Christians are freed from all grace
Thomas Hooker the puritan leader that founded the colony of Connecticut

Dominion of New England when King James II exerted more royal control, despite the colonies not wanting this
Glorious Revolution the overthrow of King James II in England
Bacon's Rebellion the rebellion of Virginian farmers, like Nathaniel Bacon, which led to the killing of Indians and the burning of Jamestown
Headright System a system that made some people very wealthy by giving them the right to acquire 50 acres of land to the person paying the passage of a loborer to America
