Why did the colonists boycott British goods? to hurt the British economy, protest the Townshend Act and to show resistance to English taxation
What happened during the 1776 meeting of the Continental Congress? the Declaration of Independence was written by Thomas Jefferson and committee and approved.
What was the purpose of the Sons of Liberty? to protest the Stamp Act and other English taxes
What was the significance of the Mecklenburg Resolves? it was the first official rejection of British rule in the colonies
Why did the British tax a variety of items in the American colonies? to help the British government get out of debt
What did the Articles of Confederation do? it set up a weak federal government, giving more power to the states
Why was the French alliance a major turning point in the Revolutionary War? the French sent military supplies and loaned money to the Continental Congress which boosted American spirits
How did the French and Indian war and the Revolutionary War create similar economic and political issues? both wars created debt that could only be resolved through taxation
What did the Halifax Resolves say? King George was a tyrant, and the colonists tried unsuccessfully to resolve their differences and were declaring their independence
What was the strategy used by George Washington and other military leaders? they used guerilla warfare instead of direct confrontation
How did the battles of Guilford Courthouse and King's Mountain affect the outcome of the Revolutionary War? both battles weakened the Redcoats physically and emotionally
Why did King George III issue the Proclamation of 1763? He was tired of fighting the Indians and knew that if people moved west of the mountains fighting would resume
Why did women become camp-followers during the Revolutionary War? to be with their husbands and have protection
What does "taxation without representation" mean? there was no one from America in Parliament to vote against the taxes England proposed
