Communism - is a revolutionary socialist movement to create a classless, moneyless, and stateless social order structured upon common ownership of the means of production, social and political ideology
Truman Doctrine - the American policy in 1947 of providing economic and military aid to Greece and Turkey because they were threatened by communism.
Marshall Plan - the large-scale American program to aid Europe where the United States gave monetary support to help rebuild European economies after the end of World War II in order to prevent the spread of Soviet communism.
Containment Policy - United States policy using numerous strategies to prevent the spread of communism abroad.
Domino theory - if one state in a region came under the influence of communism, then the surrounding countries would follow in a domino effect.
NATO - (North) Atlantic Alliance, is an intergovernmental military alliance based on the North Atlantic Treaty which was signed on 4 April 1949.
Warsaw pact - a mutual defense treaty between eight communist states of Eastern Europe in existence during the Cold War.
Iron Curtain - symbolized the ideological fighting and physical boundary dividing Europe into two separate areas from the end of World War II in 1945 until the end of the Cold War
Sputnik - the first artificial satellite to be put into Earth's orbit.(USSR)
Espionage - spying involves a government or individual obtaining information that is considered secret or confidential without the permission of the holder of the information.
Soviet Bloc - The communist nations closely allied with the Soviet Union, including Bulgaria, Cuba, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, Poland, and Romania, whose foreign policies depended on those of the former Soviet Union.
M.A.D - is a doctrine of military strategy and national security policy in which a full-scale use of high-yield weapons of mass destruction by two opposing sides in which both will be totally destroyed.
"Star Wars" - The Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) was proposed by U.S. President Ronald Reagan on March 23, 1983.
Bipolar - a distribution of power in which two states have the majority of economic, military, and cultural influence internationally or regionally.
I.C.B.M - a ballistic missile with a long range (greater than 5,500 km or 3,500 miles) typically designed for nuclear weapons delivery (delivering one or more nuclear warheads).
C.I.A. - a civilian intelligence agency of the United States government.
H.C.U.A. - The House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC), a committee of the U.S. House of Representatives, investigated allegations of communist activity in the U.S. during the early years of the Cold War.
