This is the vocabulary from Social Studies Unit 4

| gross state product | the total value of all the goods and services produced by the workers of the state in one year |
| productivity | the amount of goods and services produced in a period of time divided by the resources used to produce them |

| competition | the effort among similar businesses to sell the most products |
| ethanol | a liquid that can be used as a fuel in automobiles |
| tourism | the business of serving visitors |
| trade-off | when you give up one item to buy another |
| opportunity cost | the item you do not buy when you have to pick between two items that you want and you can only afford one |
| entrepreneur | a person who takes a risk to start a new business |
| profit | the money that is left over after all a business's expenses have been paid |
| investor | someone who puts his or her money at risk in hopes of making a profit |
| supply | the amount of a product or service that is available |
| demand | the amount of a product or service that people, as buyers, want and are willing to buy |
| interdependence | people in each place depend on people in other places for resources, products, and services |
| exports | goods shipped from one country to be sold in another |
| imports | goods brought into one country from another country |
| double-bar graph | a graph that makes it easy to compare two sets of numbers |
| legislative branch | the branch of the government that writes state laws- Indiana's legislature is called the General Assembly |

| executive branch | the branch that makes sure that state laws are carried out |
