Why did the south and the north each want California to join their sides? The North wanted California to join their side because they thought that if California would join them, slavery would would be banned. The South wanted California to join their side because they thought that there would be moere vvotes for the North side.
Explain the reaction that the south and the north each had to Abraham Licoln's election as President in 1860. South - It seemed that they had no voice in the national government. NOrth - Were happy because he was against the Dred Scott decision and slavery.
Explain each of the following: 1.Compromis of 1850 2.Wilmot Proviso 3.Missouri Compromise Compromise of 1850 - Was to please both supporters or opponents part of what they wanted Wilmot Proviso - it was a failed law taht was still obeyed Missouri Compromise - It stated that Maine was a free state nd Missouri was a slave state
Describe some of Licoln's major supporting points during his debates with Stephen Douglas for the Senate in 1858. What were the issues that he felt strongly about? "If slavery isnt wrong, then nothing is" "It cant work half and half" His main issue was he wanted everyone to come togerther or grow apart.
How did the war actually begin? Where, when, and why? The war started by the attack of Fort Sumter. It was because of Abraham Licoln. They did it because when he became president, he banned slavery. This happened on April 12, 1861. This happened at Fort Sumter.
What was the Dred Scott decision? What were the conditions that the court decided upon? The Dred Scott decision was that even though he was a slave in were slavery was illegal, he still couldnt sue his owner. They said that "Even though he free, doesnt make him a citizen."
What were the political issues that John C. Calhoun supported? The political issues are he supported the south, he supported slavery, and he was against the Compromise.
