Who proposed the Peace Corps? Kennedy at the beginning of his presidency
What did Kennedy promise? revitalization of the economy from the recession of the Eisenhower years
What is flexible response? developing an array of military options that could be precisely matched to the necessities of the crisis at hand. President Kennedy increased spending on conventional military forces
What was the Bay of Pigs? the invasion of Cuba in hopes to overthrow Castro
What was the March on Washington? a Martin Luther King, Jr. led peace march with 200,000 black and white demonstrators in support of the proposed new civil rights legislation
What did LBJ have to offer the country? Civil Rights Act of 1964, banning racial discrimination in most private facilities open to the public, and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) to eliminate discrimination in hiring.
What was the War on Poverty based off of? LBJ was a teacher before he went into politics and saw first hand the poverty of the country and wanted to fix it
What sorts of things did LBJ do to initiate this 'war'? Department of Transportation and the Department of Housing and Urban Development cabinet positions were created, National Endowments for the Arts and the Humanities, Medicare for the elderly, Medicaid for the poor & Immigration and Nationality Act
Who were the Black Panthers? men like the KKK but black and in support off black rights and black nationalism.
What was Tet Offensive? When the Vietcong took advantage of Tet time peace treaties and killed many soldiers and innocent people because the soldiers were all under the impression of a cease fire
