What was the Three-Fifth Compromise? Five slaves will be counted as three people when determining representation in the House of Representatives
What was the disagreement between Slave States and Free States concerning the importation of slaves into the United States? Slave states didn't think Congress should limit the importation of slaves; Free States thought limits should be set
What was the Slave Trade Compromise? The importation of slaves can continue for 20 more years, but must end in 1808
What was the disagreement between Agricultural and Manufacturing States over import and export taxes? Agricultral States thought there should be no taxes on imports and exports. Manufacturing states thought there should be an import tax
What was the Commerce Compromise? Congress can tax imports, but not exports
How did the upper class want to elect the president and Congress? Voters elect a small number of well-educated leading citizens to be "electors." These "electors" would choose the president and members of Congress
How did the Democrats want to elect the President and members of Congress? The president and members of Congress should be elected directly by the voters
What was the Election Compromise? 1. Voters will choose electors who will vote for president 2. The Senate will be elected directly by state legislatures (This had changed) 3. The House of Representatives will be elected directly by the voters
