Source A place where the river begins.
Mouth A place where a river empties into an ocean,lake or larger river.
Tributary Any river that flows into another, larger river.
Port A place where sships load and unload there goods.
Growing Season The time of year when the weather is warm enough for crops to grow in a certain place.
Cash Crop A crop that is grown to be sold for money.
Coal A mineral found under the earth's surface, that is burned as a fuel.
Dam A wall built across a river to control the flow of water or creat a lake.
Council A group of people who meet and talk to make decesions.
Trail of Tears The forced movement of Cherokee and some other Native Americans to what is now Oklahoma.
Declaration of Independence A Document written by Thomas Jefferson in 1776, explaining why the thirteen colonies should be free from British rule.
Civil rights The rights of the people to be treated equally under teh law.
Segregation Laws that separate one group from another.
Syllabary A system of writing in which wich each syllable of a word is represented by a symbol.
Sequoyah A Cherokee Indian who invented a writing system for the Cherokee language.
Thomas Jefferson Wrote the Declaration of independence.
Harriet Tubman Helped 300 slaves escape to freedon on the undergound raildroad.
Jefferson Davis He was the President of The Confederacy
Rosa Parks She refused to give her bus seat to a white man.
Martin Luther King Jr. He was a civil rights leader, who worked for equal rights for African Americans.
Civil War From 1861-1865 North and South fought over slavery.
Abolotion An end to slavery, Abraham Lincoln wanted to end slavery so he wrote the Emancepation Procloamtion.
