Why did the Dixiecrats form? They Democrats in the south who were opposed to Truman's Civil Rights Actions
After the end of WW2, did strikes increase or decrease? Increase. It had been illegal to strike during the war.
What happened when the coal miners went on strike? Truman ordered government seizure of the mines and then pressure downers to grant most of the union demands.
Who was Checkers? Nixon's dog. When he was running as VP with Eisenhower he had been accused of using political money for personal means. He said the only gift he had received that he would not give up was a dog named Checkers.
What is "Creeping" socialism? Eisenhower was conservative and id not like that the federal government was continuing to aid businesses. He called this aid "creeping socialism".
What did the invention of the transistor make possible? The miniaturization of radios and calculators
Rock'n"roll grew out of the sounds of what kidn of music? rhymthm and blues
What was the book, "The Other America" about? The poverty in America... that there was 1/5 of the country below the poverty line
What was the biggest juvenile crime of the 1950s? Car Theft
How did African American salaries compare to White salaries? They only made about 1/2
