STAAR Vocab Words

QuestionAnswer
Italicized A way of writing that slants letters to emphasize their importance.
Assumption Taking something for granted.
Illustrate To make clear.
Conclude To bring to an end.
Dialogue Conversation between two or more people.
Excerpt A passage selected from a larger work.
Playwright A writer of plays.
Protagonist The leading character of a piece of literature.
Antagonist The opponent in a piece of literature.
Symbolic Imagery Presenting ideas through an item that stands for something greater than itself.
Reference An allusion.
Dramatic Irony Irony that is used in drama and understood by the audience, but not the characters of the drama.
Objective Point of View Looking at something from an outsider's perspective with no bias.
Assonance Resemblance of sounds.
Figurative Language Involving a figure of speech; not literal.
