Speculation Involvement in a risky business transaction in an effort to make a quick or large profit.
Buying on Margin The purchasing of stocks by paying only a small percentage of the price and borrowing the rest.(CONSIDERED ONE OF THE MAJOR CAUSES OF THE STOCK MARKET CRASH)
Demand Refers to how much of a product or service is desired by buyers
Supply Represents how much the market (seller) can offer
Black Tuesday October 29, 1929 the day the stock market crashed.

Bonus Army Group of unemployed veterans that marched on Washington to demand a promised bonus. The group was gassed in a decision by Hoover in order to remove the crowd.
21st Amendment Repealed 18th amendment and made the sale,distribution, and consumption of alcohol legal. FINANCIALLY MOTIVATED
Bank Holiday FDR closed all Banks in order to prevent further withdrawals. (AMERICANS NEED TO REGAIN CONFIDENCE IN THE BANKS)
Fireside Chats Series of speeches conducted over the radio by FDR directly to the American public in order to reduce fear and uncertainty about the current situation.
New Deal Set of programs and policies designed to promote economic recovery and social reform. EXPANDS POWER OF THE GOVERNMENT
Civilian Conservation Corps CCC Provided jobs for single males on conservation projects.
Federal Emergency Relief Act FERA Helped states provide aid for the unemployed
Civil Works Administration CWA Provided Federal Jobs
Public Works Administration PWA Created jobs on government projects meant to stimulate economy
Emergency Banking Relief Act EBRA Investigators reviewed banks and only allowed the fiscally sound the OK to reopen
Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation FDIC Insured bank deposits up to $5000
National Recovery Administration NRA Established codes of fair competition and set guidelines for a minimum wage
Securities and Exchange Commission SEC Supervised the country's stock practices.
Agricultural Adjustment Act AAA Aided farmers and regulated crop production. (PAID FARMERS TO UNDER PRODUCE CROPS)
Tennessee Valley Authority TVA Developed the resources of the Tennessee Valley (BRIDGES & DAMS)
Home Owners Loan Corporation (HOLC) Loaned money at low interest to homeowners
Federal Housing Administration (FHA) Insured loans for the building and repairing homes.
New Deal Criticisms Government was getting to big/FDR was becoming too powerful and a king like/Government was too involved in the free market economy
Father Charles Coughlin (NEW DEAL CRITIC) radio show reached to an audience of 40 million. He opposed Roosevelt and believed Americans needed a guaranteed income.
Dr. Francis Townsend (NEW DEAL CRITIC) Physician. He opposed Roosevelt because he believed he wasnt doing enough to help elderly and poor. DEVISED A PENSION PLAN THAT WOULD PROVIDE BENEFITS TO ELDERLY.
Huey Long (NEW DEAL CRITIC)Senator. Proposed a nation wide share our wealth program.
Wagner Act National labor relations act. Established a labor board to settle disputes between employees and employers
Fair Labor Standards Act Established a minimum wage and maximum number of hours in the work week.
Schlechter Poultry Corp v. United States deems NIRA/NRA unconstitutional..gave legislative powers to executive branch
Social Security Act Provided pension for elderly and people with disabilities
United States v. Butler deems AAA unconstitutional. Agriculture is a state matter and shall be regulated by the states not the federal government.
Second New Deal Had a stronger focus on social reform
Court Packing Bill FDR was not happy with supreme court and proposed a bill that Congress reorganize the Judiciary allowing him to appoint six more justices. PEOPLE WERE OUTRAGED
