American Revolution

QuestionAnswer
What did the Second Continental Congress do? It authorized the printing of money; set up a post office; created the Continental Army.
What was the Olive Branch Petition? It was a plea by the colonists to King George, asking him to make peace with the colonies before a war started
What did Thomas Paine's Common Sense say? It described the abuses by England and told colonists they had a right to be free.
What was the Declaration of Independence? A statement, written by Thomas Jefferson, that declared America's independence from England. Approved on July 4, 1776
Who fought in the Revolutionary War, and why was it fought? The Americans and the British. The Americans broke free from England and became a separate country.
What was the Battle of Trenton? A battle where the Americans ambushed Hessian solders by crossing the Delaware River.
What was the Battle of Saratoga? The turning point of the American Revolution, the battle that convinced France to join the Americans' fight.
What was the Battle of Yorktown? the battle that ended the war.
Who was George Washington? the leader of the Continental army, and the first president of the United States
Who was Benjamin Franklin? an American inventor, and a member of the Continental Congress who helped frame the Declaration of Independence
Who was King George III? King of England during the American Revolution
Who was General Cornwallis? British general who surrendered at Yorktown
What was the battle of Lexington and Concord? first battle of the American Revolution
What countries supported America's fight against England? France and Spain.
What treaty ended the American Revolution? Treaty of Paris, 1783
