Checks and Balances Each branch of government has certain powers with which it can check the operations of the other branches of government.
Judicial Review Power of the court to determine the constitutionality of a government action.
Federalism The division of power among a central government and several regional governments.

Unconstitutional To declare illegal, null and void-a governmental action is found to violate some provision of the Constitution
Amendment Changes in the written word of the Constitution
Ratification Formal approval by the states of the United States to amendments to the Constitution, process of ratification of treatie by the Senate
Formal Amendment Change or additions that become part of the written language of the Constitution itself
Bill of Rights First 10 amendments of the Constitution that set out the guarantees of freedom of belief, expression, security of a person, and fairness and equal treatment under the law.
Executive Agreement Pact made by the President directly with the head of a foreign state

Senatorial Courtsey An unwritten rule closely followed in the Senate that all Pres. appointees be accepted by the Senate
