Describe how Cabeza de Vaca, Estevan de Dorantes, and 2 others ended up in Mexico City? They landed in Florida instead of New Spain. Narvaez sent the boats away. They were chased away and made boats. The boats sank in a storm and they ended up landing in Texas. They became slaves, escaped, and walked to Mexico City.
Why did they go searching for 7 mysterious cities of gold that were not real? The Indians had told them stories of the cities to try and trick them into leaving.
What were the Seven Cities of Cibola? Seven mysterious cities of gold that never existed.
What did the priest Marcos de Niza do get a second expedition to find the Seven Cities of Cibola? He lied and said he saw the cities.
Who was Francisco Vasquez de Coronado? An explorer who set out to find the Seven Cities of Cibola in Arizona.
Where did Francisco Vasquez de Coronado explore? Arizona - Colorado River to New Mexico, including the Grand Canyon
How did the Spanish treat the Indians in New Spain? Give some examples. Poorly - - took land that was not theirs - took gold and other valuable things - killed many through war and disease - made the Indians slaves - worked long hours in bad conditions
What was the result of the poor treatment of the Indians in new Spain? The created the "Law of the Indies". The priests helped protect the Indians.
Did the explorers ever find the Seven Cities of Cibola? no - It was a story made up by the Indians to get the Spanish to leave.
