What is a conquistador? A conquerer
What is armor? heavy metal worn for protection
Who conquered the Mayas? Hernan Cortes
Who conquered the Aztec? Hernan Cortes
Who conquered the Taino? Christopher Columbus
Who conquered the Incas? Francisco Pizzaro
What time frame was going on in Europe while the Aztec, Maya, and Inca civilizations were growing? Middle Ages
What were the holy wars in Europe called? crusades
Why did the holy wars begin/ The Christians and Muslims wanted to control the Holy Lands
Explain why did Age of Exploration to started? The Crusades were going on an the Turks captured Constantinople. The Turks also made the trade routes difficult. The kings and queens wanted a shorter, safer route to get goods from India.
Where was Christopher Columbus sailing to? Did he arrive there? He was sailing to the Indies. He arrived in the Caribbean islands.
What was the result of Columbus landing in the Caribbean islands? He took slaves (Taino people), gold, spices, and new things back to Spain. He brought the Taino people disease which killed many of them.
Why were the Spanish explorers like Cortes and Pizarro able to overcome the Indians? (4) - more men - horses - better weapons - armor - guns
What did the Spanish call present day Mexico after they conquered the Maya and Aztec? New Spain
Give three reasons the Spanish and Portuguese explored the Americas? - gold - more wealth - glory - fame and power - god - to spread Christianity
