US Constitution

In 1776, the Continental Congress developed a plan for a national government. This plan gave the national government few powers because officials feared a strong government would lead to tyranny. What was this plan called? Articles of Confederation
In 1780s, many farmers in Massachusetts owed more money to the government than they made. Farmers asked the government to provide debt relief but the legislature refused and this caused the farmers to rebel. What is this rebellion called? Shay's Rebellion
Starting in 1786, 55 delegates from the 13 states gathered in Philadelphia to create a new plan for the national government. What was this gathering called? Constitutional Convention
This was a plan offered by Edmund Randolph and other delegates from Virginia. This plan proposed a government that would have three branches: legislative branch, an executive, branch, and a judiciary branch. What is this plan called? Virginia Plan
This plan was offered as an alternative to the Virginia plan. To strengthen the role of small states in the national government, it proposed creating a legislative branch which had only representative for each state. What is this plan called? New Jersey Plan
This was a plan that attempted to incorporate aspects of the Virginia Plan and the New Jersey Plan. It proposed creating two houses for the legislative branch: a Senate and House of Representative. What is this plan called? Great Compromise
