Document NameWhy was it written?success or failure?
The Declaration of Independence An official document written written to explain to the world why the American colonies had to break away from Britain. Success! It broke ties with Britain and began the revolution that led to the freedom of the US
The Articles of Confederation Written by the continental congress to create a new plan of government after the American revolution. Failure. It gave too much power to the states and not enough to the national government. Under the Articles, National government was almost powerless and most of the time, states didn't even send a representative to congress.
The US Constitution Written to replace the articles of confederation and to set up a system of Federal government where power is shared between the national and state government Success! after more than 200 years, the US constitution is still the framework for our national government.
The Bill of Rights The first 10 ammendments to the constitution. Written to make sure the national government would not take away the rights and freedoms of the people. Success! These 10 amendments are still part of the constitution and continue to protect our rights today
