Chapter 7: The American Revolution

In the American Revolution, what were strengths of the Americans? Strong patriotism, help from overseas (the French), and George Washington (a powerful commander)
In the American Revolution, what were weaknesses of the Americans? Not enough troops, not enough guns or power, and a shorting of food and money.
In the American Revolution, what were strengths of the British? Large number of troops, help from Indians, well trained troops
In the American Revolution, what were weaknesses of the British? Distance between Britain and America, poor leadership, and unhappy British taxpayers.
The African Americans during the time of the American Revolution wondered if ??? would be a result. freedom from slavery
Why did some of the African Americans fight for the British? because they were promised freedom from slavery
In August 1776, the war was thought to be almost over because one side was greatly winning. Who was the side that didn't give up even though they were losing? The Americans.
What marked a turning point in the war for the Americans? The Battle at Saratoga.
What was the event on December 25, when the Americans attacked the British unexpectedly, and won because of it. The Victory in Trenton.
A week after the attack on Trenton, what event occured? The Battle at Princeton.
Who was the person that carried out the new plan for battle, which was to be defensive instead of offensive? General Burgoyne
Francis Marion was one of these. They are soldiers who are not part of a regular army. Guerrillas.
What were the three key provisions of the Treaty of Paris? Great Britain agrees to see the United States as an independent nation, Great Britain gives up it's land claims in the US, and the US agrees to return everything taken from loyalists during the war.
