HEENT eye ointment

QuestionAnswer
Wash hands with soap and warm water. Dry thoroughly.
Remove cap from tube of medication.
Tilt head back slightly
Draw lower eyelid of affected eye down and away from eyeball to form a pocket
Avoid touching the tip of the tube to the eye or surrounding skin
squeeze tube to apply a thin ribbon of the prescribed length of ointment to the inner surface of the lower eyelid formed in step 4
Release lower eyelid and gently close eye
Keep eye closed for approx 1-2 minutes. During this time rotate the eye under the eyelid to distribute the medication. DO NOT RUB EYES
Wipe off any excess ointment with a clean tissue
Wash hands with soap and warm water when finished
