| acceleration | the rate at which velocity changes over time; an object accelerates if its speed, direction, or both change |
| balanced force | two or more forces that are equal and opposite of one another; do not cause change in motion |
| energy | The ability to do work or cause change |
| force | A push or pull acting upon another object |
| friction | A force that resists the motion of an object |
| gravity | the force that pulls objects toward earth |
| inertia | the tendency of an object to resist any change in its motion. Objects at rest tend to stay at rest |
| kinetic energy | energy in motion |
| speed | how fast an object is moving |
| unbalanced forces | 2 or more uneven forces acting upon an object |
| velocity | the speed of an object in a particular direction |
| potential energy | energy possessed by an object because of its position or energy waiting to happen |
