| What was Marbury vs. Madison? | a Supreme Court decision in 1803 in which the Court gave itself the power to review the acts of the government and determine whether those acts were constitutional |

| What was McCulloch vs. Maryland? | a Supreme Court decision in 1819 in which the Court used the necessary and proper clause of the Constitution to settle a conflict about Maryland banking law |
| What are implied powers? | implied powers are powers of the federal government that are not expressly stated, but rather suggested or alluded to by the Constitution in the necessary and proper clause |
