World War 1 was caused by what? Nationalism, Militarism, and Imperialism.
Nationalism An extreme form of patriotic feeling.
Militarism Glorification of the millitary
Imperialism A policy of extending a country's power and influence through diplomacy or military force.
What 3 countries made up the Triple Alliance Germany, Austria Hungry, and Italy.
What was Social Darwinism? The idea that only the fittest will survive.
Who was in charge of educating the American people about the war effort? The CPI.
What is the Sedition Act? An act that made it unlawful to use profane language about the millitarty or the government.
As men entered the war, what happened at home? Many women moved into workforce for the first time.
With their efforts and sacrifices during the war, women convinced President Wilson to do what? To support their sufferage demands.
Who else besides African Americans took advantage of oppertunity? Mexicans.
What 2 ethnic groups opposed the war? Why? German Americans and Irish Americans. They were treated with prejudice.
What is the selective service act? A millitary draft to serve in Europe.
What did President Wilson encourage? What did he push congress to do? He encouraged Americans to volunteer for servuce and pushed congress to pass the selective service act.
What is a conscientious objector? Someone who forbids to fight in a war because of moral or religious beliefs.
What women and groups were against the war? American Feminists.
What group supported the war? The NAWSA
The war brought new oppertunities for whom? Women, African Americans, and Mexican Americans.
What does peace without victory mean? We can have peace without fighting a war.
In 1919 President Wilson traveled to Versailles, France for a peace confrence.
Who were Sacco and Venzetti? Italian immigrants known as anarchists.
What happened in September 1918? The flu appeared.
What is inflation? A rise in prices.
After the war, what did consumers rush to buy? Consumer goods, rather than war bonds.
What happened in 1919? More than 4 million workers went on strike.
When strikers turned violent who did they blame? Radicals.
What did WW1 produce? Significant economic, social political and cultural changes in America throughout the world.
Who was the Soviet leader? Vladimir Lenin?
What were the raids that Palmer launched called? Palmer raids.
Who won control of congress? The Republicans.
What happened to Wilsons ideas? They were rejected.
What us a Creditor Nation? Other countries owed the U.S money than the U.S owed them.
What happened in Germany and Russia? New forms of government were created.
What happened to the Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian Empires? They ceased to exist.
