The Magna Carta Signed by the king to limit his power and says he must respect his citizens.
The Influence of the Magna Carta on the Constitution. It sayed that if there were an over ruling power, then they must promise to respect their citizens.
Thomas Jefferson's Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom. Stated that no person had to follow a certain religion or give a church money.
Northwest Ordinance of 1787: slavery The Northwest Ordinance stated that Slavery was banned but Many people still found this a Problem.
Northwest Ordinance of 1787: Adding new States The Northwest Ordinance added Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.
Purpose of Land Ordinance of 1785 and Northwest Ordinance of 1785. Provided Civil liberties. It Said all people were required to have an education, and there would be no slavery in the Western Territories.
How land was divided under the land Ordinance of 1785. Land was divided into Townships which were 6 square miles.
Major influences on the US Constitution. Important events that influenced the Consitituion were The Mayflower Compact, the Colonial Assemblies, The Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom, The Magna Carta, The English Bill of Rights and the Enlightenment.
How the Articles of Confederation reflected the ideas of in the Declaration of Independence It gave more rights to the citizens.
Significance of the Articles of Confederation It limited powers in order to protect citizens' liberties.
Main Cause of Shay's Rebellion Farmers were upset about land tax and rebelled.
US Governement's response to Shay's Rebellion. They stopped the rebellion and sentenced 14 leaders to prison.

Problems with Britain after the Revolution. Britain blockaded the Americas with trade to the west indies and other countries.

Purpose of the Constitutional Convention. To change the articles of confederation and to make amendments to fix the entire government.
New Jersey Plan Proposed every state would get 1 vote in legislature regadless of population.
Great Compromise Representation in the house of representatives would be based on a bicameral legislature. Each state would get the same number of senators.
North vs. South disagreement over slavery at the Constitutional Convention Said slaves would be counted as three fifths of a person when determining a state's population for representation.

Purposes of checks and balances government Made it so there would be no branch of government that would become too overpowered.
How the Constitution reflected the Ideas of the Declaration of independence. Protects peoples rights and prevents one person / branch to gain too much power.
Power of the national Governement. Could: declare war, negotiate treaties, issue money, regulate trade, and run the military.
Power of the State Governements. Could: regualte education, grant licenses, provide police and fire protection, and regualate property.
Shared powers between State and National Governemnt. Both could: Levy taxes, define crimes and punishments, determine voting qualifications, and borrow money.
Federalists and their arguements for the Constitution. Offered a good balance of power, could draft an army, could tax, and could stable a strong governements.
antifederalists and their arguements against the Constitution. Thought the constitution would not form a new governemnt, thought the contitution had too much power over the government, and it did not have a place for individual rights.
The Federalists Papers Anonymous papers supporting the constitution.
The Bill of rights - what is it and how it refelcts the ideas in the Declaration of Independence. kept king and queen posing new taxes and laws without parliaments permission. Government had too ask all states first.
Reasons the US constitution is still in use 200 years later. The constitution provides good government and a set of good principles.
