Fort Sumter Confederacy's military objective is to control the Union Arsenal located in Charleston South Carolina Why? Military win, location, economic significance trading post/ harbor
Fort Sumter cont Despite pofetic warnings, The had an Unconditional Surrender. President Lincoln's response was to make a force of volunteers as a military Uprising.
Fort Sumter Results The Confederate States of America, Virgina, Arkansa, Tennessee, and North Carolina are now a part of the Confederacy led by Jefferson Davis (elected president)and declares a War of Independence
The Union vs The Confederacy Comparison North's army much bigger bc of population and the south did not allow slaves to fight. South had more military experience and skill.
Robert E. Lee From Virgina is commander of the Confederate army.
The Confederate Strategy fight a defensive war by fortifying the cities.
Bull Run Northerners thought the war was going to be easy so they had a picnic and watched. Although outnumbered the confederate won and it was a major physiological defeat. Albert Riddle (Congressman) was an eyewitness.
Battle of Shiloh and Antietam Many men were killed. Robert E Lee marched in the battle of Antietam and the confederate lost causing the south to suffer a stetegic loss bc great britian is no longer going to send aid to the confederates.

The Battle of Gettysburg The Union army suffers a heavy loss at the battle of seminary ridge. Lee orders George Pickett to attack. they loss a lot of men. 50 men are killed in 3 days on both sides.
Significance of the Battle of Gettysburg South suffers major defeat. Lincoln delivers the Gettysburg Address which us short and said all Americans had an equal right in America's future and he wanted to preserve the Union.
Battle of Vicksburg Union had already captured New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Nathchez, Ms. and Memphis. Ulysses S Grant begins the siege. Lee and his troops leave Gettysburg and confederates surrender.
Lincoln and changing leaders. Winfield Scott- Overall command Ulysses S Grant- "Middle Theater" Ambrose E Burnside- Fredericsburg Joseph Hooker- Chancellorsville George Meade- Gettysburg George McClellan- Eastern Theater and gets replaced by ambrose Robert E Lee- Confederates'
