Chavin de Huantar Early Horizon, 1000 - 200 BC. Was a nexus point of cult=Exported style and iconography, but didnt settle/make road system=very powerful cult rather than site.
Chavin de Huantar Chavin takes things that are already in the culture. Reasons to reference jungle: fertility, powerful animals, entheogens.
Chavin de Huantar pilgrimage site=portable works of art; big effort for materials/objs to ex/import: gold exist further to N and E (ecuador/columbia)= had to trade for gold.

Linear style negative technique. BG is put down first. more about spiritual concepts. figure created thru negative space.
