What is the cotton gin? Machine for cleaning the seeds out of short-staple cotton.
In what way did the cotton gin accelerate the expansion of slavery in the south? It was very profitable to grow cotton. Wealthy planters purchased large areas so land and put the large slave labor force to work cultivating it.
What was the name of the 1815 plan to unify the nation? American System
What were the three parts of President Madison's plan? Develop transportation systems, Establish a protective tariff, resurrect the national bank.

How would the American System unite the nation? The North would produce manufactured goods that the South and West would buy. The South and West would produce most of the agricultural products which would be purchased in the North.
What was the intention of the American System? Americans would finally be economically independent of Britain and other European nations.
When was the first steam locomotive in the U.S. built? 1825
What were the advantages of railroads? They were fast, able to cross almost any terrain, and possible to operate in severe weather.
