Triangular Trade a system in which goods and slaves were traded among the Americas, Britain, and Africa.
Great Awakening A religious movement that swept through the colonies in the 1730s and 1740s.
The French and Indian War 1754 King Philips War. Tensions between the New England colonists and the Wampanoag Indians. 600 colonists and 3,000 indians were killed.
Proclamation Act of 1763 This law banned British settlement in the Applachian mountains. It also ordered settlers to leave the upper Ohio River valley.
Samuel Adams A local leader. He believed that parliament could not tax the colonists wihtout their permission. "No taxation without representation."
Boycott Daughters of Liberty supported the boycott. The colonists boycotted against the townshend acts.
Stamp Act 1765 This act required colonists to pay for an official stamp, or seal, when they bought paper items.
Repeal To take back. Parliament repealed the Stamp Act.
Townshend Acts 1767 Parliament passed these acts. This places taxes in glass,lead,paints,paper, and tea.
Boston Massacre 1770 Lots of shootings. The British shot the colonists in revolt.
Sons of Liberty A group of colonists that revolt.
Boston Tea Party 1773 Colonists disguised as Indians dumped 340 chests of tea into the Boston Harbor.
Intolerable Acts 1774 In the srping, Parliament passed the Cooercive Acts (Laws).
First Continental Congress 1774 A gathering in the fall of delegates from throughout the colonies.
Battle of Lexington-Concord 1775 The redcoats attacked the minutemen. The British only had one man wounded. 8 minutemen died and 10 were wounded.
Minutemen Memebers if the civilian volunterr militia who were ready to fight at a moments notice.
Second Continental Congress 1775 In May, delegates from 12 colonies met in Philadelphia.
Battle of Bunker Hill 1775 400 men attacked the British at fort Ticonderoga. during an early morning storm, the Patriots quickly took the fort and its large supply of weapons. It also proved that the colonists could take on the Britsh.
Common Sense A 47-page pamphlet published in January 1776 that urged separation from Great Britain. Written by Thomas Paine. Sodl 500,000 copies.
Thomas Jefferson Main author of the Declaration of Independence.
Declaration of Independence July 4, 1776 Formally announced the colonies' break from Great Britain.
Patriots Chose to fight for independence.
Loyalists Sometimes called Tories-were those who remained loyal to Great Britain.
People "left out" of the Declaration of Indepence Many colonists. Delagates wife, Abigail Adams, she tried to include women in the Declaration.
Who fought (groups) in the American Revolution 230,000 colonial soldiers and the british. Also the Indians took both sides during the war.
Advantages and Disadvantages of Britsh and Colinial Forces British had more/powerful weapons than the colonists. Colonists had more fighters.
Battle of Trenton 1776 The Continental Army was running throught New Jersey and only had 6,00 tired men left to fight the British.
Battle of Saratoga 1777 In New York was the greatest victory yet for the American forces.
Battle of Yorktown Americans and French against the British.
Treaty of Paris Signed on September 3, 1783, ended the American Revolutionary War between Great Britain on the one hand and the United States of America and its allies on the other. The other combatant nations, France, Spain and the Dutch Republic had separate agreements
