Boston Massacre 1770 Started after an argument between colonists and the British soliders in the colonies, British soldier got angry and shot Chrispus Attucks, who died instantly and two others who died later.
Boston Tea Party 1773 Colonists disguised as Indians dumped 340 tea chests into the Boston Harbor Resulted in the Coercive Acts, or Intolerable Acts
Sons of Liberty A colonist formed group organized by Samuel Adams in Boston. This group would attempt to stop what they believed was unjust
Intolerable Acts 1774 Put into effect after the Boston Tea Party -Closed the Boston Harbor -Massachusetts charter was canceled -Royal officials were sent to Britain for trial -General Thomas Gage became the new governor of Massachusetts
First Continental Congress 1774 A gathering of delegates from throughout the colonies in 1774 discussing what to do about Great Britain. Decided to prepare for war and halt all trade with Britain
Battle of Lexington-Concord 1775 April 18, 1775 Thomas Gage sent 700 soldiers to destroy the colonists ammunition and planned to arrest Samuel Adams and John Hancock
Minutemen Members of the civilian volunteer militia
Second Continental Congress 1775 May 1775 delegates from 12 colonies met in Philadelphia. Did not break away from England but declared that Massachusetts militia would become continental army and named George Washington the leader of the army
Battle of Bunker Hill 1775 May 10, 1775 the British arrived and fought the colonists. Even though the British won, they lost 1000 men and it showed them that the colonists had power and would be hard to defeat
