King George III British king and monarch.
Quartering Act. Cost saving measure that required the colonists to quarter, or house, British soldiers and provide them with supplies.
Revenue Synonym for income.
Sugar Act. This law placed tax on sugar, molasses, and other products shipped to the colonies.
Stamp Act. Required all legal and commercial documents to carry an official stamp showing that a tax has been put and paid.
Patrick Henry A member of Virginia's "house of Burgesses" called for resistance for the Stamp Act.
Boycott Refusal to buy.
Sons of Liberty One of the groups that colonists formed to protest against the acts.
Townshend Acts. A series of acts passed by the kings finance minister Charles Townshend to gather income from the colonists.
Writs of Assistance Search warrants that looked for smuggled goods in houses or businesses of colonists.
Samuel Adams leader of the Boston Sons of Liberty.
Boston Massacre A group of youths and dockworkers were trading insults in front of the custom house. A fight broke out, and the soldiers began firing killing civilians.
Crispus Attucks First victim of the Boston Massacre.
John Adams A lawyer and cousin of Samuel Adams.
Committees of correspondence Groups that exchanged letters on colonial affairs.
Boston Tea Party On the evening of December 16, 1773, a group of men disguised as Native Americans boarded 3 tea ships docked in Boston harbor. The men destroyed more than 342 tea chests while on board.
Militia A force of armed civilians who pledged to defend their community.
Minuteman Trained to be "ready to act at minute's warning."
Intolerable Acts. AKA Coercive Acts.of laws to punish Massachusetts and to serve as a warning for other colonies.
First Continental Congress The meeting of all delegates from all colonies except Georgia where the colonies thought how to act next with the acts.
Paul Revere A Boston silversmith and a second messenger Arranged of system that showed how the British would come.
Lexington and concord Were the first battles fought in the revolutionary war.
Loyalists Colonists who supported the British.
Patriots The rebels who fought for independence.
Ethan Allen A dude who led the Green Mountain Boys to Ticonderoga.
Artillery Canon and large guns.
Second Continental Congress The second time the colonies gathered to think about what to do next.
Continental Army was an army of the colonies decided in the Second continental Congress led by George Washington.
Benedict Arnold An officer who played a role in the victory of fort Ticonderoga.
declaration of Independence Was the declaration that finally would settle the Conflict between Britain and Colonies.
Thomas Jefferson The dude who wrote the declaration of independence.He was an excellent writer and he came from Virginia.
