QLMS Domain Scoring

Use this study stack to study for your domain scoring quiz.

QuestionAnswer
What is a domain? A domain is a set of features that makes up the main areas of quality writing.
How many domains are there? three
What are the three domains? Composing, Written Expression, and Usage/Mechanics
How long is the SOL Writing Test? It takes two days because there are two parts.
How is the essay portion of the test scored? Each domain of the essay is scored on a scale from 1 to 4, with 4 being the highest score.
What does the score mean? The scores indicate the degree of control (skill or mastery)that the writer shows within each domain.
What is a passing score on the essay? A score of 3 or 4 in each domain means a passing score.
what is included in each domain? Each domain has several features that are scored.
What features are included in the composing domain? Central idea, elaboration, unity, and organization
What features are included in the written expression domain? Deliberate word choice (vocabulary), selected, precise information,sentence variety, tone, and voice
What are the features of the usage/mechanics domain? Sentence formation, standard inflections, comparison of adjectives/adverbs,agreement, capitalization, spelling, punctuation, and formatting
List one feature of the composing domain. Central idea, elaboration, unity, and organization
List one feature of the written expression domain. Deliberate word choice (vocabulary), selected, precise information,sentence
