How did the Spanish deal with the Natives? The Spanish tried to convert and control them.
How did the French settlers deal with Natives? The French traded with the Natives, and allied with different tribes. Did not try to domesticate tehm/
Describe the Algonquian Tribes political structure as of 1620. Did not have unified organization. There was a Sachan for each community, and a council.
How did the Algonquian's provide for themselves? They relied on horticulture, using fires to help. Also used a division of labor between men and women.
What was the World view of Puritans? Puritans wanted to recreate Indians as Englishmen. They thought they had the right to improve the land, because Indians were not making good use of it. And it was their God-Given right to settle the new world.
How did the Indians view the Puritans? Saw them as just another tribe to make use of.
What year was the Pequot War? 1636
What caused the Pequot War? In Connecticut, Puritans demanded tribute from the Pequot Indians.
What did the Puritans believe was 'tribute'? The Indians hasd to contribute to the success of the colony by giving for ex: Wampum(Indian Beads)
